“Security, Race, Biopower” Book Launch
Come celebrate the launch of “Security, Race, Biopower: Essays on Technology and Corporeality”, a new collection from Palgrave MacMillan, edited by Dr Holly Randell-Moon and Ryan Tippet from the University of Otago's Department of Media, Film and Communication.
The book explores how technologies of media, medicine, law, and governance enable and constrain the mobility of bodies within geographies of space and race. It features chapters by scholars from New Zealand and Australia addressing topics as disparate as drone strikes, nursing homes, health motivation apps, and crown succession laws.

In order to link this academic work with the advocacy and issues that it examines, there will be a screening of a “Call to Account” video by the Australian group Researchers Against Pacific Black Sites, and a call for donations to the Refugee Legal charity which defends the rights of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants to Australia.

The book launch follows a seminar on March 30 from 1:00-2:10pm, in St David's Seminar Room 5, in which Holly, Ryan, and contributor Dr Brett Nicholls will talk about their chapters in the book.
