The film cluster provides students with knowledge about the formal, aesthetic, historical, technological, economic, socio-cultural, ideological, and theoretical dimensions of cinema.
We will investigate popular, art, independent, and experimental films from around the world, including Hollywood, New Zealand and Australia, Europe, India, and Asia.
Students choosing from this cluster will learn the main approaches to the study of film, such as:
- Theories of genre, authorship, and nation in cinema
- Historical studies and methods
- Textual analysis and interpretation
- Film theory (including classical, contemporary, feminist and queer film theories)
