Deputy Vice-Chancellor External Engagement, Professor Tony Ballantyne, and the Development and Alumni Relations Office, is pleased to invite you and a guest to a Tauranga alumni event.

In-person events are important for us to maintain our connections with alumni, and we are happy to be able to return to Tauranga and host an event. We are delighted to announce Professor Robert Patman as the guest speaker at this event, and we invite you to attend and hear from him.

Professor Patman’s talk is titled: Why the Veto Power of the UN Security Council Destabilises Global Security in the 21st Century.

About our speaker Professor Robert Patman Robert Patman is one of the University of Otago’s Inaugural Sesquicentennial Distinguished Chairs and a specialist in international relations. He is the Director of the Master of International Studies (MIntSt) programme. He has authored or edited 14 books with most recent being a co-edited volume titled New Zealand’s Foreign Policy under the Jacinda Ardern Government: Facing the Challenge of a Disrupted World (World Scientific Publishing, March 2024).

Robert is also an Honorary Professor of the New Zealand Defence Command and Staff College and makes regular contributions to the national and global media on international issues.
