Call and no response: The impact of international conflict on refugee communities in Scotland/UK
The Centre for Global Migrations and Toitū present a lecture from Professor Alison Phipps (University of Glasgow) on the impact of international conflict on refugee communities in Scotland and the UK.
What happens when war breaks out and you can’t return home? How do you deal with the separation from family and friends? What does it mean to lose a home and to no longer have an address? How do you approach the funerals of loved ones you cannot attend? What to do with the helplessness?
This lecture focuses on several conflicts and responses but in particular examines 15 years of Professor Alison Phipps' work with the Gaza Strip and the differing responses and needs in a fraught and contested environment in Scottish and UK higher education and through wider actors, protests, demands, MPs and the media.
Professor Alison Phipps is UNESCO Chair on Refugee Integration through Education, Languages and Arts at the University of Glasgow.
