The 2024 F W Guest Memorial Lecture, organised by the Faculty of Law, University of Otago, will feature The Hon Justice Christian Whata, a distinguished High Court Judge from Auckland.

Justice Whata, who has a deep background in Māori legal issues and public and environmental law, will present on the crucial topic of "Tikanga and the Law: Can We Engage and Protect the Integrity of Both in a Time of Transition and Uncertainty?"

This prestigious annual lecture, established to honour Professor F W Guest, the first full-time Professor and Dean of Otago's Faculty of Law, gathers legal professionals, students, academics, and the public for a thought-provoking discussion. It serves as a key event in the Faculty's calendar, with attendees also including members of Professor Guest’s family, such as his son Jim, now a senior practitioner in Dunedin.
