Improving our buildings, cutting carbon is a collection of essays by a wide range of experts in the areas of decarbonising new and existing buildings while maintaining health and wellbeing. The book, from the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities, highlights both achievements and major gaps in policy in Aotearoa. At the launch, Dr Geoff Bertram will comment on how New Zealand's built environment sector can reduce its carbon emissions and explore the challenges and opportunities of the transition to a zero carbon future.

About the presenters
Dr Geoff Bertram is a senior associate at the Institute for Governance and Policy Studies with research interests including climate change policy, income and wealth distribution, industry regulation and macroeconomic policy.
Professor Philippa Howden-Chapman is co-director of He Kāinga Oranga Housing and Health Research Programme and director of the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities at University of Otago, Wellington. She was honoured in the 2021 New Year Honours List for her public health work researching the links between urban housing, health and well-being.
