Nirun, Sorawit Songsataya
Taking its title from the Thai word for eternal, Sorawit Songsataya's Frances Hodgkins Fellowship exhibition 'Nirun' explores (im)permanence, motion, the cyclical and the accumulative nature of 'home' at varying scales.
Shaped by the richness within Te Waipounamu, the exhibition includes a series of Ōamaru limestone sculptures, prints, films and LED animations that investigate our relationships to place, distance and people.
Arts writer Bridget Riggir-Cuddy comments that 'Nirun' "collapses and shifts between microscopic and memory worlds, scientific and poetic senses, and the ideas of place as geographic and belonging."
Artist Sorawit Songsataya was the University of Otago Frances Hodgkins Fellow in 2022.
