Building on the Annual Pacific Lecture given by Reverend Professor Upolu Vaai, this panel discussion will focus on his call for us to re-engage with "fanua-centred" philosophies and reconsider our approaches to developing in the region and in our lives.

Chaired by Dr Charles Radclyffe (Archaeologist and PacTNet Co-Director at Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka).

We will hear perspectives and responses to this idea from:

  • Leading Samoan scholar in the area of Pacific spatial and architectural environment Professor Albert Refiti (Vā Moana Research Centre, Auckland University of Technology)
  • Legal scholar and land governance expert researching in the Indigenous Pacific, Dr Francesca Marzatico (School of Surveying, Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka)
  • Pacific leader, sociologist and Dean of Te Tumu Professor Patrick Vakaoti (Te Tumu, Pacific Thought Network, Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka)

Refreshments will be provided. Please join us.
