Thirst for Knowledge - Kia Hauora Anō: Following the lives of wounded 28th (Māori) Battalion veterans through the archives, and how
The 28th Māori Battalion suffered disproportionate casualties and critical injuries in World War II, yet there has been little work on the medical care these men received and how it impacted on their lives beyond the war years.
Appropriate medical treatment, aftercare, and rehabilitation was critical - but what did this look like for Māori? How did their sacrifice during service impact upon the remainder of their lives? And just as importantly, how do we trace a life through the archives?
This talk stems from early research being undertaken to address these questions and highlights why it is important work.
