Otago alumnus Ridge Ponini and current student Sarah Hubbard have reached the semi-finals of the Lexus Song Quest. Ridge, a proud Cook Islander, has an honour's degree in Music and Sarah is studying for a Bachelor of Music.

Music alumnus Anthonie Tonnon wins Taite Music Prize
Anthonie Tonnon has won the Taite Music Prize for his album 'Leave Love Out Of This'. The award is named after highly respected music journalist, the late Dylan Taite, and highlights outstanding albums released in Aotearoa New Zealand in the past year, with the judges' decision based entirely on creativity and artistic merit. Anthonie graduated from Otago with a Bachelor of Music.

Dr Jemma Geoghegan wins top emerging scientist prize
Dr Geoghegan has become just the second woman to win the Te Puiaki Kaipūtaiao Maea Prime Minister's MacDiarmid Emerging Scientist Prize. When the COVID-19 pandemic first reached New Zealand in 2020, she helped establish the genome sequencing of COVID-19 cases in the country.
