The hard work and commitment of Te Kura Whaiora o Ōtepoti, Dunedin School of Medicine’s teachers and professional staff was recognised and celebrated at an awards ceremony last week.

Acting Dean of the School Professor Lynley Anderson says the annual Advanced Learning in Medicine (ALM) Teaching Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the talented, dedicated staff who support the DSM’s students.

“So much work from so many people goes into teaching and supporting our medical students. It’s important we let our staff know that their efforts are really appreciated.”

Professor Anderson was unable to attend the ceremony as she was overseas, so Acting Deputy Dean Professor Tim Stokes hosted the event.

“These awards celebrate not only our established teachers, but also our teachers in training. We pride ourselves on the quality of our teaching because how we teach influences what our students become,” he says.

The annual awards are a collaboration with students, who decide some of the award categories. The categories reflect the work of all staff, including administrators, trainee interns, house officers, and clinical and academic staff.

The ALM awards ceremony was held at the Barnett Lecture Theatre on 8 August.
