The Centre for Neuroendocrinology celebrated a successful year at the Medical Sciences Congress during Queenstown Research Week 2024, with a strong presence of staff and students.

Professor Rebecca Campbell honoured with Triennial Medal

The Physiological Society of New Zealand awarded its prestigious Triennial Medal to Prof Rebecca Campbell for her distinguished work on androgen excess and its impact on the female brain in polycystic ovary syndrome ( PCOS ). Professor Campbell delivered an insightful lecture on this topic.

Speaker prize winners: Andy Stewart and Shahd Al-Isawi

Andy Stewart, supervised by Dr Teodora Georgescu, and Shahd Al-Isawi, supervised by Professor Dave Grattan, jointly won the Speaker Prize from the New Zealand Society of Endocrinology. Andy presented his research on the role of lactogenic hormones in suppressing fever during pregnancy, while Shahd discussed her PhD thesis work on prolactin receptor expression in the adrenal gland.

Mini-Oral Prize awarded to Kai Woolf

Kai Woolf, from Dr Joon Kim’s group, won the Mini-Oral Prize in the Physiological Society of New Zealand competition for her work on hypothalamic stress neurons and their involvement in chronic stress.
