Bulletin photo comp 2024 winners collage

Deep sea photography, scenic mountains, wildlife and more. The top 12 photos of 2023 were selected from over 100 entries.

It’s time to dust-off your cameras and polish your lenses.

The Otago Bulletin team is excited to announce the launch of the 2024 photo competition, which opens for entries on Monday, 15 July.

Interesting faces, places, and spaces, we want to see it all!

The best photos will be selected by a panel of judges and featured on the Otago Bulletin Board in September. The top 12 entries will then be shared in a series of ‘photo of the month’ posts across Otago’s social channels.

If you’re looking for inspiration, check out last year’s winners and notable entries.

Here’s what you need to know to enter:

Who can enter?

The competition is open to staff and students at the University of Otago.

What’s the deadline?

Photos are due by Friday, 23 August 2023.

How do I submit a photo?

Email your entry and a short description (up to 100 words) of each photo to bulletin.comp@otago.ac.nz, with the subject line 'Bulletin Photo Competition 2024'.

What size and shape do the photos need to be?

The photos can be either landscape or portrait shape, although landscape works better. The ideal dimensions are H:1080px x W:1920px or H:1920px x W:1080px. The higher quality the better.

How many photos can I submit?

You can submit up to three photos, but if you don't have three photos you feel are up to competition standard don't feel obliged to submit more than one.

Who are the judges?

A panel of judges, including Otago’s photographer Dave Bull, will pick the best of the entries received.

Are you happy for us to print and use your photos?

By entering, you grant permission for us to post your photo to the University website and Facebook page and other social media, and for your photo to be printed for display purposes if selected as a winner or notable entry in this year’s competition.

If you still have questions, please contact the photo competition team.
