A Smart Grid research project report launched at The Energy Conference in Wellington last month has been well received.
“Electricity Distribution Companies have been particularly enthusiastic, as the report has scoped new technologies which are coming on to the market that will allow for quite novel ways of managing energy at a household level,” says Centre Director Janet Stephenson.
The Energy Transitions: Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) report was prepared for The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).
The report discusses the role of Home Energy Management Systems as the consumer interface within New Zealand's future Smart Grid. It also looks at how this can support integrated demand response (such as reduced peak demand and the risk of system overload) to achieve better management of resources and minimise the risk of service interruption.
