After an absence of several years, MedTech in Christchurch arose kicking back to life over one day in March 2024.
The day was hosted by the University of Otago, Christchurch and Bioengineering@Otago, along with the Health Technology Centre and Te Papa Hauora Health Precinct. With over 80 attendees and held in the original venue of the Beavan Theatre at the Christchurch School of Medicine main building.
A full day with over 20 presentations showcasing Christchurch MedTech research and commercialisation. Ranging from Start-up companies, the local MedTech support ecosystem, a PhD/ECR rapid-fire competition, and a 7 member panel discussion.
The event wound up with the popular social networking session sponsored by and held at the Health Technology Centre located at The Arts Centre.
The event was opened with a Mihi Whakatau by local Iwi Rangihau Te Moana, followed by Associate Dean (Medical Admissions), Otago Medical School, Professor Suetonia Green, and the Director of Bioengineering@Otago, Professor Tim Woodfield.
Professor Woodfield gave a brief overview of Bioengineering@Otago and provided details and images of the new UOC building currently being constructed in the Health Precinct bordering the Avon river.
After the panel discussion and wrap-up many attended the networking located close by at the Health Technology Centre located in the newly rebuilt Arts Centre. Overall, a very successful event that we hope to run again next year.
