The University of Otago Council has appointed Nicola Riordan as its newest member.
The Auckland-based director has extensive experience in technology businesses both in New Zealand and internationally, including roles at Xero, Skype, and Tweetdeck.
Ms Riordan’s appointment started on September 1, filling the vacancy created by the departure of Martin Dippie, local businessman and longstanding Councillor.
She is excited to join the Council and is looking forward to learning more about Otago’s unique culture and heritage.
“I have a lifelong love of learning and truly believe in the opportunities that further education can open up for people.
“I hope that my expertise can help the University, including seizing opportunities in digital transformation and embracing the future of learning,” she says.
Ms Riordan is a Chartered Member of the NZ Institute of Directors and holds an MA in Strategic Marketing Management, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Relations, and a BBS in Business and IT.
She is a director of Kordia, REINZ, Realestate.co.nz, Diabetes NZ, NZ Financial Services Group and Loan Market Group (AU).
Chancellor Stephen Higgs and Chancellor-elect Trish Oakley are pleased to have Ms Riordan join the Council.
“Nicola has a wealth of experience in a range of governance roles. We know her skills will be of benefit to the University as we utilise technology as part of delivering against our strategic plan, Pae Tata,” Mr Higgs says.
