The Webster Centre for Infectious Diseases has awarded three conference attendance scholarships for young researchers to attend 'Microbes and Molecules', on 26-29 November 2018.
The conference is the joint NZ Microbiological Society and NZ Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology meeting being held in Dunedin .
Congratulations to the recipients:
- Tess McBride (honours student from the Fineran laboratory)
- Dr Suzanne-Louise Warring (research technician from the Fineran laboratory)
- Dr Da Yuan Chen (a postdoctoral fellow from the Husain laboratory)

The Webster Centre is also sponsoring Dr Kathryn Holt, University of Melbourne, who will be a plenary speaker at the conference.
Kat is a NHMRC Career Development Fellow in the University of Melbourne's Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Bio21 Institute. She has a BA/BSc majoring in Biochemistry, Applied Statistics and Philosophy; a Master of Epidemiology; and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Cambridge and Sanger Institute.
Kat's research focus is microbial genomics, focusing on sequencing-based approaches to understanding bacterial pathogens and infectious disease, particularly typhoid, dysentery and hospital-associated infections.
