We work to understand human impact on our marine ecosystem and physical environment

We use biological and physical time series, controlled experiments, and modelling to establish the interactions between chemical, physical, and biological processes.

Our researchers focus on impacts with relevance for New Zealand and the South Pacific.

Marine research on the Otago shelf has been central to providing insight into major water types, and is the internationally renowned subject of the Munida transect ocean carbon time series. This project has been active for over 20 years.
