Educating doctors is a responsibility and a privilege. It's important to the Otago Medical School that we are transparent about how we meet this responsibility, and that our programme has a close relationship with the communities in which our graduates will practise. We work within expectations of Government and health providers to ensure regulatory accountability; we initiate opportunities to engage directly with individuals and informal groups to allow community accountability, and we underpin these with systems for internal accountability and ongoing quality assurance.
- Community accountability includes our commitment to reflect our society in our demographic mix and meeting workforce needs, and providing opportunities for stakeholders, whether groups or individuals to offer feedback on our medical programme.
- External accountability includes the formal reporting relationships we have with accrediting and funding bodies.
- Internal accountability covers the systems for planning, research and evaluation through which we monitor the programme to make sure it meets the external and community expectations.
