The Division of Health Sciences provides a range of support for Māori students embarking on a career in the Health Sciences, including medical students. Each campus has a strong Māori health department, which supports Māori medical students as well as the Hauora Māori curriculum.

Māori students are also supported throughout their studies by the University's Māori Centre Te Huka Mātauraka.

Te Oranga ki Ōtākou (TOKO)

With the philosophy of 'Kia toha i te ora', meaning 'to spread the wellness', Te Oranga ki Ōtākou (TOKO) is a not-for-profit student organisation of Māori medical students. Although the core working group is situated in Dunedin, we also have students at Wellington and Christchurch campuses. The group's sole purpose is whakawhanaungatanga - making connections, all with our Māori identity as the common thread.
