Professor Crampton took up these important positions in January 2011, replacing Professor Don Roberton.
He says he has enjoyed his time in these roles immensely, and is very proud of the Division's achievements over the past seven years.
“I have a huge sense of gratitude for the inspiration, hard work and successes of staff and students in the Division and will be happy to pass on the baton in the knowledge that the Division's future is extremely positive. There are many exciting developments underway and I am confident the Division will continue to grow and prosper.”
During Professor Crampton's time at the helm, the Division has thrived. Last December it celebrated the milestone graduation of 45 Māori medical students, while in February last year Professor Crampton was given special recognition by the University's Pasifika community for his ongoing commitment to their education.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne says the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Health Sciences is a massive one and Professor Crampton has been stellar in this role.
“The Division has prospered under his leadership and I have valued his experience, his wisdom, and his relentless pursuit of excellence."
Professor Crampton says he is grateful for the support and collegiality of Professor Hayne and his other senior colleagues.
“I wish Harlene and all my colleagues inside and outside the University all my ongoing support and best wishes.”
Before becoming Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Otago's largest Division, Professor Crampton was based at the University's Wellington campus. In 2004 he was appointed as Professor and Head of the Department of Public Health and in 2008 he was that campus' Dean.
The search for Otago's next Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Health Sciences and Dean of the Otago Medical School will begin shortly.
