Biochemistry's Professor Catherine Day was amongst several researchers whose groundbreaking work was highlighted as part of celebrations of the twentieth anniversary of the Marsden Fund this week.
The Marsden Fund is New Zealand's largest fund for leading-edge, fundamental research projects. Professor Day joined other scientists, researchers and politicians at Parliament on Tuesday to celebrate this important milestone in its history.
Marsden Fund Council Chairperson Professor Juliet Gerrard said looking back over the last two decades, it becomes clear how Marsden-funded research has benefited all New Zealanders.
“Many projects have a long lead-in time, but increasing our basic understanding of the world has now brought improved environmental outcomes, new technologies and better medicines and healthcare.”
