David Burchell is one of New Zealand’s leading organists, and a former organ scholar of New College, Oxford (UK). His principal organ teachers were David Sanger and John Wellingham. He is Dunedin’s City Organist, Organist and Choir Director of St Joseph’s Cathedral, and organ tutor and graduation organist for the University of Otago. He is also Musical Director of City Choir Dunedin, and of ‘The Little Box of Operas’, and one of the regular conductors of the Dunedin Youth Orchestra. He also performs around New Zealand as organ soloist and accompanist, and locally as a piano accompanist and harpsichordist; he has appeared several times as organ and harpsichord soloist with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, and is heard occasionally on Radio NZ Concert.
