Overview
Participation (through recreation) improves quality of life, health and well-being and decreases the risk of lifestyle related co-morbidities which include cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and stroke. However, inaccessible parks perpetuates health inequalities.
The Parks for Activity and Recreation in the Community (PARC's) programme of work looks to reduce barriers to urban green space and playgrounds.
There is Master's and PhD opportunities in this inter-professional team to:
- Explore the benefits of green space in the management of people with long term conditions
- Explore School accessible outdoor play spaces and opportunities for children with disability
- Work collaboratively with communities and policy makers (local and national) to develop universally accessible urban parks
Dr Perry would welcome enquiries from eligible candidates with a background in health, healthgeography, and socialpolitics.
