Overview

Peripheral sensory information from the three basic sensory systems (vision, vestibular and proprioception) is essential for effective postural control. These three sensory systems are required to adapt to a range of physiological situations to provide an efficient and context dependent postural control. However, impaired functioning of one or more of these systems due to a peripheral or central issue may require compensatory re-weighting from other sensory systems.

Researchers at the School of Physiotherapy have been working in this research area for the past decade in a range of population and would welcome expressions of interests from potential future postgraduate students (Master's by Thesis or PhD).

An ideal student will work closely with closely with Dr Prasath Jayakaran to develop a research proposal.
