Overview

In the second year, the course focuses on the scientific knowledge you will need as a physiotherapist.

This includes the biomedical sciences of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and an introduction to physiotherapy science and clinical practice.

You will begin interacting with patients at the outset, under the supervision of physiotherapists working at Dunedin Hospital.

Admission into second year Physiotherapy study

Physiotherapy is one of the five Heath Sciences Professional Programmes (the others being Medical Laboratory Science, Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy).

Entry is competitive, with only a limited number of places available each year. Admission is gained through one of the following categories:

Papers

Representing a full-time course load, there are five compulsory second-year papers totalling 120 points:

  • PHTY 250 Anatomy (for BPhty)
  • PHTY 251 Physiology (for BPhty)
  • PHTY 254 Physiotherapy Rehabilitation Science 1
  • PHTY 255 Physiotherapy Clinical Practice 1
  • PHTY 256 Physical Activity for Physiotherapy Practice
