Overview
PhD candidates are being recruited to join the NZBRI's Neurotech Research Team.
The Christchurch Neurotechnology Research Programme – NeuroTech™ – is primarily based in the New Zealand Brain Research Institute and is a joint venture between:
- New Zealand Brain Research Institute
- University of Canterbury (Electrical & Computer Engineering and Psychology, Speech and Hearing)
- University of Otago, Christchurch (Medicine)
- Canterbury District Health Board (Medical Physics & Bioengineering and Sleep Unit)
- Auckland University of Technology (Mechanical Engineering)
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated students to do their PhD. Potential topics include:
- i. The phenomena of microsleeps and lapses in sustained attention
- ii. Detection and prediction of microsleeps and attention lapses from electrophysiological signals
Applicants must be eligible for admission to the PhD programme at the University of Otago.

Funding Notes
Whether you are a domestic or an international student, the University of Otago has a range of Doctoral Scholarships available to you.
If you are a straight A student (GPA of 8 - 'A' grade) or higher, who has completed an Honours or Master's degree with an appropriate research component from a New Zealand university then you are likely to be guaranteed a University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship.
