Overview
PhD candidates are being recruited to join the Respiratory Physiology Research Group, University of Otago, Christchurch.
The Respiratory Physiology Research Group engage in respiratory research across a wide range of topics in respiratory medicine and physiology. We have active projects investigating bronchiectasis, COPD, pulmonary hypertension, pneumonia, and interstitial lung disease. We collaborate across New Zealand, Australia and internationally. We have strong links to other University of Otago groups particular the Christchurch Heart Institute. Potential PhD students may wish to engage with existing projects or come with new ideas.
Potential topics include:
- Biomarkers in Pulmonary Artery Hypertension
- Energy consumption in COPD
- Beta-blockers in COPD
- Antimicrobial use in bronchiectasis
- Survival with Interstitial Lung Disease
Applicants must be eligible for admission to the PhD programme at the University of Otago.

Whether you are a domestic or an international student, the University of Otago has a range of Doctoral Scholarships available to you.
If you are a straight A student (GPA of 8 – 'A' grade) or higher, who has completed an Honours or Master's degree with an appropriate research component from a New Zealand university then you are likely to be guaranteed a University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship.
