The University of Otago is one of only two educational facilities in New Zealand that have their own policeman (the other one being Massey University in Palmerston North). There has been a “Campus Cop” at Otago since 1997.

Campus Cop's responsibilities

Snr Constable Woodhouse offers advice on safety/security, as well as taking complaints regarding thefts, lost property, etc. He works in closely with the Proctor and deals with any students who choose not to partake in the Proctor's diversion scheme.

He also looks after the Otago Polytechnic; all totalled some 35,000 students and staff.
