I chose to major in Film and Media Studies and Art History at Otago because they were subjects that interested me, and I hoped they would lead to work in these fields.
After a year doing tutoring work, I was fortunate to become Registrar for the Hocken Pictorial Collections, University of Otago.
This role has been incredibly interesting and varied. I am responsible for caring for the Hocken's significant NZ art collection, managing loans to other institutions, and assisting with exhibitions in the Hocken Gallery.
My connections with the University have helped in the work I do to facilitate access to the collection by the research community. The research skills and critical thinking I developed in my undergraduate degree have been invaluable to my work and in pursuing other professional development opportunities.
While working at the Hocken I have also completed a post-graduate diploma in Museum Studies, and am looking forward to continuing my career in the Museum sector.
