Natalie Lanfear says distance learning is an ideal option for those on the go. Having completed both a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and Learning via distance learning, she's now working towards a master's degree.
“Otago's distance study allows me to study on my time – I can fit study around my work, sporting and racing commitments. It's ideal for those who have other lifestyle commitmentsto consider.”
Natalie has worked in the sports and recreation sector for ten years, and says one benefit of distance learning is the ability to instantly apply new knowledge to her own work.
“I'm studying the latest educational research methods and pedagogies within this course and I can immediately apply these to my sports teaching and coaching classes. My students are benefiting from the information I have been taught in the morning later on that afternoon.”
Natalie says that connecting with Otago's academics, administrative staff and other students on the course was easy and the advice given was constantly professional and valuable.
“Having this level of knowledge at your fingertips, it is hard to not be constantly inspired to be a better informed educator.”
