Preston Maluafiti
Ecology and Marine Science
Preston Maluafiti is studying towards his Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Marine Science.
Preston is a Samoan student who over the summer worked on a project which looked at the global state of involvement of indigenous knowledge in ecosystem restoration.
Within Aotearoa, he is interested in developing engagement with the Māori community as stakeholders in ecological studies. In the future he hopes to expand this kaupapa to other communities.
Preston also recently worked along the Otago coast aiding in surveying work for new proposed marine reserves. He is in his third year and after earning his degree is looking to begin his journey towards a Master of Science with a focus in fisheries ecology and conservation.
