Barbara Grace Williams (1942–2008) came to Otago as a postdoctoral fellow from the UK in 1967, having completed her PhD at the University of Wales, Swansea.
She was a lecturer/senior lecturer in Zoology and Marine Biology for nearly 30 years and was highly regarded by her colleagues and students as a teacher, mentor and postgraduate research supervisor.
Her international reputation in chronobiology brought top scholars to undertake collaborative research at the Portobello Marine Laboratory.
She reluctantly retired early on medical grounds in 1997.
