I am advising that the power to the Hercus building will be shut down from the morning of the 7th December 2024 (Saturday 6am) through to the end of day Sunday 15th December 2024.
During this period access to the building will not be available except for in emergencies.
The Otago Zebrafish Facility will be provided with power via a back-up generator supply.
Apart from Zebrafish only laboratory fridges and freezers will be plugged in to emergency back-up power.
Please start going through all your cold storage to see if you can combine anything and reduce the number of fridges and -20oC freezers. The cold room will be on emergency power.
Contact your departmental manager if you need to find laboratory space for any essential lab work that needs to continue during this week.
Temporary power supplies will also be provided for the Fire Alarm and Access Control systems.

Description: Please be aware that from Monday 11th November until Friday 7th February the lift lobbies on the ground floor and first floor of the OBS are being upgraded.
We will be splitting both lobbies down the middle with hoardings to enable the South lifts then the North lifts to still be accessable while we work on the North side then the South.
At diffrent stages of this project either the Ground toilets or the Level 1 toilets will not be accessable, but never both floors at the same time. We will however endevour to have the Ground toilets accessable for the larger events that have been booked in over the next few months.
Noise will be kept to a minimum, but the atrium enviroment may unfortunately echo the work being carried out.
This has been programmed while the building is in it's low occupancy but work on the project will be suspended while an event is taking place.

TotalCarpets are coming back this weekend to clean the carpets as this was not completed, the focus was drying the place out.
Electrically the site was confirmed safe yesterday, the team had to change out several socket outlets and a supply fan but everything was put back into service.

From November 11, contractors will be installing outdoor wireless access points in areas around the Clocktower - typically to existing lamp-posts. This important work is necessary to improve the student and staff outdoor WiFi experience.
It will be necessary to carry out minor ground excavation for the new cable runs, which may be moderately noisy at times. The contractor will do their best to schedule the noisier work prior to 8.30am, but some noise during the day may be unavoidable.

Our Fire Alarm Contractors will be carrying out the annual survey of the fire alarm system in H402 St David II on Thursday 14th November 2024. The fire alarm surveyor will be accessing all areas of the building.
This survey includes testing of the evacuation systems, which may be bells, sirens & evacuation messages, on Thursday 14th November 2024. between 07:30 and 08:30.
During this time the bells, sirens & messages will operate intermittently.
If they operate continuously, please follow normal evacuation procedures.
We apologise for any inconvenience this mandatory testing may cause.

Description:
The Power to the Hercus building will be disconnected for a period of up to 9 days from the morning of the 7th of December 2024 (Saturday 6am) through to the end of day Sunday 15th of December 2024.
During this 9-day period access to the building will not be available.
*** When leaving the Hercus building for the last time prior to the outage please ensure you have everything you will require as no access will be given during the shutdown ***
One.NZ and Spark Cell sites on the roof of the building will be powered from mobile generators (24 hours a day) during this outage.
The Level 1 Otago Zebrafish Facility along with the Level 2 West Pathology Lab both will be provided with power via a mobile generator, this power supply is for the sole purpose of keeping fish alive and cold storage operating not for research to continue.
Apart from the above research areas all other laboratory fridges and freezers will be connected to emergency power points around the Hercus building before the power is disconnected.
Lab Users:
Please start going through all your cold storage to see if you can combine anything and reduce the number of fridges and -20oC freezers which need power over this time.
The cold room will be on emergency power.
Contact your departmental manager if you need to find laboratory space for any essential lab work that needs to continue during this week.
For users of the Biochemistry and Microbiology buildings, Hercus building users requested we notify you of this outage as some of you work across the campus.
Scott and Thermal Storage building Users:
The work in the Hercus building may be disruptive and/or may impact how you access your building.
Multiple mobile generators will be operating (24 hours a day) in the car parking area behind Scott and Hercus buildings during this outage, these generators will unfortunately create additional noise in this area.
Temporary power supplies will also be provided for the Fire Alarm and Access Control systems, and Network Cabinets (including Wi-Fi and CCTV).
Car Park Lease Holders:
Med School Car Parks 1-13 will not be available from Friday 6/12/2024 2:00 pm through to Monday 16/12/2024 10:00 am
We understand this is creating significant inconvenience.
Please bear with us, this outage is to allow us to complete a multi-year project upon which other projects are dependent.
