What is the Internet of Things?
Have you ever needed to turn on the light, but procrastinated because it was too far away? Or have you wanted the temperature of your room to be just right, without moving a finger?
Welcome to the Internet of Things, where any real or virtual “thing” is connected to the Internet to be made “smart” and automated. By using sensors to collect data and programs to process them, we can form a smart home or a smart city, using physics and maths, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Who should consider this project?
Anyone interested in technology and computers, who wants to discover how things work and build their own “smart” systems. Anyone interested in how computing technology can improve other sciences such as psychology and medical science.
Summer (January) and Winter (July) Science Camps
Through a real IoT programming project, you will be introduced to how the internet works, some programming and a little hands-on circuit building. You will also get a taste of how a computer science project can be involved in almost any other discipline. We will program with small powerful computers, various sensors and Arduino boards. Afterwards, you could even design a real IoT system with your creative ideas. Finally, you will learn basic methods for signal processing and machine learning.
You will learn from this project:
- How the Internet works
- Arduino programming
- Electronic circuit building
- How various sensors work
- Interaction between real world and computing world
- Robotic systems
You will have hands-on experience of the following research projects:
- Mind controlled drone
- Augmented reality
- Game development
- Large-scale computer systems
This project is designed to encourage your interest in computer science as well as maths and physics. It will also help improve your learning and research ability no matter what science you will study in future.
