What is Botany?
Botany is the study of everything associated with plants. This includes exploring how plants work by studying their physiology, genetics and structure; investigating the ecological roles of plants and their interactions with other organisms like animals and fungi; and maximising the benefits that plants provide to humans through agriculture, medicine, and economics.
Botany is important because life on earth depends on plants. Plants and other photosynthetic organisms created the oxygen rich atmosphere we breathe, and they continue to convert sunlight into energy – supporting all biological processes on earth.
