Community engagement and science outreach activities

Outreach@otago-web

Across the Divisions of Sciences and Health Sciences, as across the rest of the university, departments engage with the local and national community in a range of ways, and students are often involved in these endeavours.

Some activities are directly course-related and required, many are voluntary; some are paid short-term positions.

The thing they have in common is that the students who participate develop skills in teamwork, communication, time management, and personal organisation that are very appealing to employers.

In recognition of these extra skills, the Division of Sciences offers an Outreach Certificate for those students who have completed at least 60 hours of community engagement - the Certificate is for work that is not course-related or credit-bearing.
