Thesis: Tomboys: Disrupting the Gender Spectrum (working title)
Cassandra is a PhD candidate in Gender Studies, researching contemporary tomboy embodiments and gender diversity. Her research is both international and intersectional in its approach.
After completing her BA (Hons) in English Literature, Cassandra became a sporadic backpacker, taking on an eclectic mix of jobs ranging from a presenter at a zoo, to a scriptwriter for a children's animated television show. She was an English & Creative Writing teacher in Singapore for over 5 years, where the discrepancy in how children internalize gender norms fuelled her interest in the depiction of tomboys and how they transcend conventional gender binaries. She hopes to merge her interests in critical race theory, (trans)feminism, queer theory, and philosophy of language in providing a fresh take on what it means to be a contemporary tomboy.
