You will need to show one of these forms of photo identification the first time you get a student ID Card:
- Preceding University of Otago ID Card
- Full Passport
- New Zealand Drivers Licence
- 18+ Card
- New Zealand Firearms Licence
No other ID is accepted by the ID Card Office.
Student ID Card
The card contains a chip and antenna that is currently used for door access. Please do not punch holes in your card as you may damage the chip and antenna. Do NOT place on wireless phone chargers or store beneath a phone case. This can damage/burn your card.

The Otago student ID Card displays (clockwise, from top left):
- Photo
- University of Otago logo
- Valid date - this is the life term of your card (3 years)
- Card type - Staff, Student, Library User etc.
- Te Rōpū Māori logo - which shows you are a member of Te Rōpū (dependent on your enrolment)
- UOPISA logo - which shows you are a member of UOPISA (dependent on your enrolment)
- OUSA logo - which shows you are a member of OUSA (shows on all student cards whether you are a member or not)
- Username - which you will need together with your password to log in to use IT facilities and services. The username is made up of a random selection of numbers, as well as the first three letters of your surname and first two of your first name.
- Barcode - which is used for checking out library books
- First name and surname
- Student ID number (above name) - which you receive when you enrol as a student
