Overview
Housing quality and energy consumption have significant impacts on both our health and the environment. Poor housing quality is a key driver of energy poverty (being unable to afford or access sufficient energy for our needs at home - also known as energy hardship in Aotearoa). Holistic evidence and understanding is required to measure outcomes and the success of interventions in an interrelated way across the areas of housing, energy, and health and wellbeing.
Projects on this topic may draw upon a mix of qualitative or quantitative methods, and focus on a specific population risk group of interest to the student or the community partners that our teams collaborate closely with. The opportunity is therefore suitable for a wide range of students at Masters and PhD levels.
Applicants are expected to have a high level of motivation and excellent communication skills.
In the first instance, applicants should contact Dr Kimberley O'Sullivan by email to discuss a Master's or PhD project. Further information may be sought from suitable candidates that will include:
- a copy of your CV
- a copy of your academic transcript
- a PDF copy of your Master's research thesis if PhD-level study is sought, or copy of an assignment from a postgraduate-level taught course if the applicant is applying for a research opportunity at Master's level
Please note that this project is not yet funded and would therefore involve the preparation of a scholarship application in conjunction with the research team.
Applicants must be eligible for admission to the Master's or PhD programme at the Department of Public Health, University of Otago, Wellington.
