The University, city and region

The University

Nagoya University of Commerce and Business was founded in 1953 by Yuichi Kurimoto, who was the first Japanese person to graduate from the University of Alberta in 1930 and the founder of the Kurimoto Educational Institution (KEI). Over the last 80 years, the University has become known worldwide as a premier educational institution.

NUCB is recognised by the motto ‘Frontier Spirit’, symbolising the strong spirit of being at the frontier of knowledge and communications. It is a private university in Nisshin, just outside Japan’s third-largest city, Nagoya. NUCB has over 3,500 students, and 100 professors. The university has a strong commitment to excellence in case method teaching and research and has developed alliances with international institutions in Asia, Europe, North America, and Latin America.

Their mission, guided by a 'Frontier Spirit', is to develop leaders and entrepreneurs with a global perspective, advanced management skills, and high ethical standards that will equip them to succeed in bridging the gap between New Asia and the rest of the world.

City of Nagoya and region

NUCB is in Nisshin, with a rural background just east of Japan's central city of Nagoya (capital of the Aichi Prefecture), which provides fast and convenient access to both Kyoto and Tokyo.

Nagoya is known for its manufacturing craftsmanship, musuems, Legoland Japan, and Nagoya Castle (dating back to 1612), among many others. A distinctive food culture exists, which is full of local delicacies such as Kishimen (noodles), Tebasaki (chicken wings), Miso-nikomi udon (miso boiled udon), and much more. The city has many lush parks that are great for recreation or taking part in the many seasonal events.
