At the 2016 New Zealand Spatial Excellence Awards (NZSEA) in November, all three finalists from the School of Surveying won in their categories.
- BSurv graduate Jeanette Ma won the Wellington City Council Undergraduate Student of the Year award for her special topic work on the 3D modelling of the Dunedin Airport plant room.
- MAppSc GIS graduate Mike McConachie won the Postgraduate Student of the Year award for his project on classifying sand dune vegetation (at Mason Bay, Stewart Island) from drone-based imagery.
- Staff member Antoni Moore won the NZIS Education and Professional Development Award for his teaching and research in geographic visualisation.
All winners are automatically entered into the 2017 Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards.
