The announcement was made at the 2019 New Zealand Antarctic Science Conference Icebreaker Event at the Christchurch Town Hall on Monday, 17 June.The scholarship is for $10,000 per annum for two years and includes logistics support from Antarctica New Zealand to support Maren's Antarctic fieldwork in the 2019/20 field season.
Maren is jointly supervised by Dr. Inga Smith and Professor Pat Langhorne from the Department of Physics and Dr. Greg Leonard from the School of Surveying.The title of her scholarship research is “The variability in sea ice growth rate under the influence of platelet ice in McMurdo Sound”.
