Research
As an early career researcher, Roma's research area is rapidly evolving. Her current research interests include:
- Māori intergenerational language transmission (and its reestablishment)
- Māori/English bilingualism
- Māori language acquisition
- Raising Māori speaking children, particularly with te reo Māori as their reo ūkaipō
- Language bonding
- Raising multilingual (and multicultural) children
- Experiences of Māori mothers
- Māori and Indigenous conceptions of sustainability
- Māori and Indigenous innovation
Roma's current research focuses on the reestablishment of Māori intergenerational language transmission of whānau Māori living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, led by Māori mothers.
Roma is co-chair of the Tī Kōuka Implementation Committee for Te Kete Aronui, and is on the editorial board for Pūhau ana te rā: Tailwinds.
