The Theology programme has a strong tradition of international undergraduate students, and postgraduate students, who come from a range of countries to undertake Masters and Doctoral degrees here.
Overseas students can enrol in any of the papers we offer, provided they have met the prerequisites in their previous study.

The story of one student from overseas: Dillon Thornton
I hail from Birmingham, Alabama, USA. When I first received word that I had been accepted to the PhD program at Otago, I was excited, and frightened. Moving your family to the other side of the world, to a country you have never even visited, is not an easy thing to do. But I am so glad we made the move.
In my opinion, Otago is the perfect place to study. The University offers generous funding for international students, the Theology faculty has a reputation of academic excellence, the library is well equipped, and we regularly host and have opportunity to interact with leading scholars from all over the world, such as Doug Campbell, Gerald Bray, John Barclay, and Richard Bauckham.
Additionally, New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places in the world. For a person who loves the great outdoors, it's a dream come true. You can hike a mountain and go for a run on the beach in the same afternoon. What more could a guy ask for? Otago's unique combination of excellent scholarship and spectacular scenery has made my time here rewarding.
