Toroa is the perfect base for studying at Otago. It's always warm, close to campus and town, and the interconnected apartment-style accommodation helps you make close friends from the day you move in.
Our suites give you the freedom of independence and the security and support of living in a University residential community. Onsite staff are available if you've got questions or just need some guidance while you're away from home.
We also have a social events calendar to make sure you get to relax and have a good time, so you get the right balance of study and fun.
Academic life at Toroa
At Toroa, our staff and our resources are committed to helping you identify and meet your academic goals. Your academic performance is very important to us and we can offer advice and refer you to support services on campus, such as the University's Higher Education Development Centre workshops.
Social life at Toroa
We want to help you make the most of your university experience by finding the right balance of study and fun activities. In our close community at Toroa, everyone gets the chance to know everyone else, so studying and socialising with good mates is what makes life at Toroa special.
We offer a calendar of cultural, sporting and community service opportunities designed to turn your time at university into an enriching experience.
Toroa is a force to be reckoned with in Otago's Inter-College competitions, in both sporting and cultural events. Our teams are known for their sense of fun and fair play, and our residents are the best supporters a team could ever have.
We are also active volunteers in our community and help whenever and wherever we can. Projects we have been involved in include fundraising for community aid groups; painting, building and gardening projects for schools and community spaces; and participating in food and clothing relief efforts for families in need.
Toroa College handbook
Our handbook details our conditions of residence, regulations and policies.
We work to appropriately address any issues that are identified throughout the year and we encourage social and personal responsibility for behaviour and actions.
The 2025 handbook will be available to download soon.
