James and Jean Davis Prestige Visitorships
Funded by a bequest made by Professor Norman Davis in memory of his parents, the University offers James and Jean Davis Prestige Visitorships to scholars of outstanding distinction and international eminence, whose visit will be of interest to the wider academic community. Recent Prestige Visitors have included Professor Steven Chu, Nobel Laureate and United States Secretary of Energy 2009–2013; Dr Don Eigler, pioneer in Nanotechnology; and Professor Joanna Bourke, highly distinguished historian, Birbeck College, University of London.

J A Valentine Visiting Professorships
These Visiting Professorships in the School of Business and the Division of Sciences were established from a gift given to the 1990 Development Appeal for the furtherance of Business and Marine Science education. Professorships are offered to encourage persons of eminence in the fields of Business or Marine Science to visit the University of Otago, deliver lectures and interact with departments in their area of research expertise.

Student travel grants
To facilitate student participation in representing the University of Otago in selected extra-curricular activities, the Vice-Chancellor may consider making a discretionary grant to a student who applies for funding, subject to certain criteria. The student must be officially representing the University of Otago at an international competition/event and must be of good academic standing.
