New Zealand born avian flu pioneer, Professor Webster, has published more than 600 articles and reviews on influenza viruses; been made a fellow of the Royal Societies of New Zealand and London; member of the National Academy of Sciences; established the Webster Family Chair in Viral Pathogenesis; gave his name to the Webster Centre for Infectious Diseases; conducted research with the Centre of Excellence for Influenza Research for Hong Kong and Memphis (St Jude Children's Research Hospital) and also served as part of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Studies on the Ecology of Influenza in Animals and Birds providing information on animal viruses that pose a threat to humans.
