Excellence and leadership in health research and teaching
The University of Otago, Wellington is a satellite campus of the Dunedin-based University of Otago. We are a medical and health sciences campus, home to around 1,000 students and an inspirational teaching team of leading health educators and researchers.
We are located in Pōneke (Wellington), the capital city of Aotearoa New Zealand. Our staff and on-campus students learn and work from locations close to the regional hospital in Newtown, and in the central city. Our main academic block in Newtown is currently being upgraded but teaching and research programmes remain in full swing.

Outstanding health research
The University of Otago, Wellington is at the forefront of disseminating research evidence and clinical knowledge to our communities, policymakers, and government and non-government agencies. The campus has strengths in a number of areas including biomedical, clinical and public health research.
Our Pacific Office provides support and expertise to those researching Pacific health in Aotearoa and the Pacific region.
The campus' Māori health research unit, Te Ropu Rangahau Hauora A Eru Pōmare, is a national leader. The strength of this unit, in combination with our well-established and long-term relationships with local iwi groups, provides a strong foundation on which to build the indigenous component of our curriculum.
