The Art of Palliative Medicine - 2017 Semester 1
I have chosen to use painting as my form of a reflective piece. I have chosen painting for a variety of reasons. During the interview with our patient we learnt that he was very passionate about drama and music. These are not things that I know anything about. My partner at the interview was quite into all this and he was able to really connect with him in a way that I could not. This made me think about broadening my horizons and learning more about the things that I have neglected to learn in the past which can be very important to other people. I chose art as I feel most of our conversation was centred around art.
Something that I have learnt about from palliative medicine and seen in this patient is about quality of life. From what I saw it was the playing of the piano that really made him happy. This is depicted in the painting as the medication in the drip being musical notes. His love for the piano is shown as the floor being the keys of the piano. It is the largest part of the picture as it is the most important thing that he has lost. The colour scheme is intended to reflect the mood which is serious and a bit sad.
